Lemon & Orange Infused Vodka
Refreshing and light cocktail base for happy hour at home. Also makes a tasty gift for the hostess. Always convenient to have on hand!
- one large organic lemon
- one large organic orange
- 1 liter of mid grade to great vodka if you’re a connoisseur (I really don’t notice the difference between Kirkland and Grey Goose with this recipe!)
- 3 teaspoons of caster sugar
Using a peeler, zester, or paring knife, peel the orange and lemon skins trying not to get the white pith. The pith will give a bitter taste, which is no buena for infused vodka.
Slice the peels into thin strips and put into a 1 liter glass bottle, or divide into two 500ml glass bottles.
Pour the vodka in next and add the caster sugar.
Seal the bottle(s) and shake together.
Store the vodka in a dry cool place and let it infuse for 5 or more days. The longer the better!
After 5+ days, strain the infused vodka with a strainer into a container, separating all of the peels.
Pour the infused vodka back into the bottles and chill before adding to the Simple Sangria, other mixed drinks, or enjoying alone. About the orange and lemon peels…don’t throw them away! Add them to the sangria or as a garnish for mixed drinks.
